The Art of Anthropologie celebrates 30 years of unlike-anywhere-else retail environments with a heartfelt, handmade touch. From the first store opening through to today, the book brings readers on a detailed journey into the making of Anthropologie’s extraordinary windows, displays and interiors and, with them, the creation of a unique visual culture.
In 2022, Anthro invited me on board to author their first-ever book, published by Rizzoli. The goal was to share brand beginnings, guiding principles and inspiration, while providing a peek into practices and processes, in the established brand voice.
Chatting with visual artists and display coordinators, listening to leadership’s stories, combing through how-tos and archival materials, and collaborating with design to match images with story elements, I crafted the narrative text and captions for the 288-page book and sprinkled it with hidden delights, in the Anthropologie way.
The book is designed to be a source of inspiration for creators, makers and artists, helping them see the familiar anew. It also stands as an homage to all the makers, past and present, who have contributed to the extraordinary experience of stepping inside Anthropologie.
The book launch was accompanied by a gallery exhibition at the New York Academy of Fine Arts. I crafted storytelling moments for the installations, to guide visitors through the works.
